Here it is...

Proof that I am one year older and wiser too.

Brad's Last Day of Preschool

Bradley just ended his first year of preschool.  He is one of the youngest since his birthday is in August and the cutoff is September 1st.

On his last day of school, his class put on a Spring Sing for all the families to come and watch.  They sang a bunch of songs that they learned this year, and also showed-off their colors, their counting, their shapes, their letter sounds, and their morning calendar routine.

Bradley happened to be the Special Leader that day so we got to watch him in action.  Again, once I get the videos figured out, I'll post some really cute ones of Bradley leading the class, and belting out in song.  He's so cute I just want to squish him!

Here's his personal fan club.

We LOVED having Miss Teresa.  She was great for him.  She just adored Bradley.  In fact even Kaleb's teacher, Miss Michelle, adored Bradley so much that she broke rules to allow Bradley to be in her class next year, even though her "boy quota" was already full.

After the program, since school was officially out, I took the boys to the dollar store to suit up for the summer.  We got squirt guns, sidewalk chalk, bubbles and toys.  I think they make some pretty convincing cops, don't you?  :)

Trafalga

After Kaleb's preschool graduation, we celebrated by taking the family to Trafalga.  It was our first time there, and the kids can't wait to go back!

They got to try rock climbing for their first time. Jaden had a blast.

He actually made it to the top

This is about as far as Kaleb made it.  But he sure was a persistent little engine!

Bradley just liked to hang around.

Then Jaden and Bradley tried the Frog Hopper.  Kaleb passed.  I said, "Really Kaleb?  You'll go on Splash Mountain, but not this?

Bradley could have stayed here all day.

Then we went out to the bumper boats.  Charles took the boys first.

While Brynnlee and I waited.

Then I took the boys out.

We got soaked... which was great, because it was a stinkin' hot day!

Brynnlee cooled off at the water globe thing.

Next we tried the racetracks.

Then the airplanes.

Then we went back indoors to play in the little play place area.  Brynnlee wanted to join, so I went in with her for as long as I could take it.  It was hot and smelly and felt like a sauna.  But Brynnlee had fun.  So much fun that she threw the biggest tantrum when I decided I had had enough of the germfest.

They had Dippin' Dots! I remember when the only place I could find those, growing up, was at Magic Mountain.  I had to let my kids experience those tiny little balls of ice cream.

After our snack, we headed upstairs for some indoor, black-light, mini golf.  We only lost Bradley once.

This was back when Brynnlee would only walk on her knees, so in the dark it looked hilarious.  It looked like a walking dress since you could see the movement at the bottom where her knees were gliding across the floor.  The picture doesn't really do it justice.

Once we found Bradley, we headed back down, took one more turn on the Frog Hopper, the rock walls, and then cooled off again at the globe.

Kaleb's Graduation

Well he did it.  Can you tell you he's excited to finally be done with Preschool?  This kid endured not one, not two, but THREE years.  And now he's done.

Kaleb's first year of preschool he only uttered a single word, one time. "Mayflower."  His second year, he started to whisper.  But  by his 3rd year... well, let's just say I now know what it feels like to have the class clown as my child.  There was hardly ever a day when I picked him up and I didn't see that wary expression on Miss Michelle's face and was then given a rundown on all of his misdeeds.  And we now get it occasionally from his Primary teachers as well.

As soon as I figure out how to download videos from my new camera, I'll post a video of him at his program.  It will demonstrate how much more... "comfortable" he has become with school.  Like in this picture, they are singing the Star Spangled Banner.  When it says "the bombs bursting in air," he is not so much holding his hand respectfully over his heart, but rather pretending that he has just been bombed and it is exploding in his chest.  Over... and over... and over again. Yes, sound effects included.

Oh, and the girl he is standing by is Cassidy.  She has been in love with him for the last 2 school years.  Her mom told me that Cassidy wants to marry him.

When Cassidy was a flower girl in a wedding, she asked her mom if she could wear that dress to the temple to marry Kaleb.  Haha!

And then I guess a week or so before graduation, Cassidy told her mom, "Mom, I kissed Kaleb."  Her mom responded with, "You did?  What did he think about that?"  Cassidy told her mom, "He didn't like it.  He told me he was NOT my boyfriend."  Poor thing!

From what we have gathered from Miss Michelle, as well as from Kaleb... he just liked to make his friends laugh.  All the kids loved him and thought he was a riot.  He didn't care much for rules, just wanted to be funny.

I'm not going to say it's not frustrating, because I know firsthand how infuriated I get when he doesn't listen to a word I say, but I will say this... The kid is charming.  Apparently he has like 5 girlfriends around the neighborhood.  One of which is Brooklyn.  Seriously one of the cutest little girls I know.

And then one day there was a new girl in the neighborhood.  I overheard the kids talking.  Jaden introduced himself and his brother, Kaleb.  The little girl said that she already knew who Kaleb was.  Jaden asked her how she knew him.  She said, "Brooklyn told me all about Kaleb.  They're in love."  Jaden just shrugged and said, "Oh. Yeah.  They are.  And they kiss sometimes."

I'm a little worried about how he will behave in Kindergarten next year, but at least I won't have to worry about him making friends.  I can threaten him with death to be good, but I can't force him to be liked and have fun.  Anger over sadness.  I think I prefer it this way... maybe.

Jaden's Play

We celebrated my dad's birthday on the Sunday following.  Earlier in the day, during sacrament meeting, I looked to see what Jaden was working on.  Usually he likes to draw pictures of army men and tanks.  This time he was writing.  It kind of looked like a play.

Later that day, when we had about an hour before going to my parent's house for dinner and to celebrate Grandpa's birthday, Jaden asked me if I would type his play for him.  He told me he wanted to do a Reader's Theater for Grandpa.  I was a little skeptical, but it was a sweet thought, so I went along.

I typed exactly what he said.  I wasn't sure where this whole thing was going, but by the time we got to the end, I was pleasantly surprised.  It actually made sense!  And it was funny!  Not to mention it flowed pretty well too.

I asked him if he had just made this  up, and he said his class did this story for Reader's Theater and he was just trying to remember how it went.

I'm not gonna lie.  I was impressed.  Next he divied out the parts for everyone but Grandpa.  Grandpa was the audience.  The play was for him.

After that he wanted to find pictures to print out that the characters could hold in front of their faces so Grandpa would know who they were.

Last, when everything was  all done and printed, and we finished eating dinner at Grandma's house,  Jaden held a rehearsal.  He made interjections like, "I need  you to say it with a little more... expression."  Or, "let's try that last part again."  Or, "Grandma, when it says you are walking, move the picture side to side like this."  Or, "Nice and loud, Kaleb."  He was a great little director. :)

Grandpa did his best to follow along, and he really enjoyed his play.

So... here it is...

Oh, and just so you know, the main character's name is pronounced "Aneese"... not-- well, what it looks like.  I tried to get him to change the spelling, but this is how he wanted it.  And now... presenting Jaden's play...

Anis and the Talking Melon

Narrator 1:  Once there was a spider named Anis.  She was taking a little walk. She got hungry so she found a way to get in to Frog’s garden.  She saw a ripe sweet melon.

Narrator 2:  So Anis ate the melon.  She was stuck inside the melon.  She was too fat to get out so she waited.

Frog:  I am so good at growing fruit.  Look at these ripe sweet melons.   I think I’ll eat this one.  Eeek!  What was that?

Anis: Frog!  You hurt me!

Frog:  Who said that?

Anis:  I did.  I’m a talking melon!

Frog:  A talking melon?  I must take this to the king!

Narrator 1:  So Frog ran to the King’s castle.

Hippo:  Where are you going with that melon, Frog?

Frog:  I am taking this melon to the King.  It talks!

Hippo:  Melon’s can’t talk!

Anis:  Yes we can!

Hippo: Eeek!

Frog:  See?  They CAN talk!

Hippo:  Can I come with you?

Frog: Yes you can.

Narrator 2:  So Hippo and Frog made it to the King’s castle.

King:  What are you doing with that melon, Frog?  I already have melons in my royal garden.

Frog:  This melon can talk!

King:  Really?  Can it really talk?

Frog:  Yes!  Yes it can!

King:  Melon!  I command you to speak.  Melon!  I command you to speak!

Narrator 1:  King threw the melon to Frog’s garden.

Frog:  You melons!  I’ll never listen to another word you say!

Narrator 2:  The melon was melon bits and Anis was hungry again.

Anis:  That was a wise decision, Frog.  We bananas should have warned you.  Those melons are troublemakers!
